Maya

Tree fungus, wood, onyx, gold leaf and seed beads

Maya was the immediate result of finding this well proportioned tree fungus. The texture was so subtle and reminded me of the feathered Maya costumes. The opulence of the top with the gold and black seed beads required a calmer base which was the black textured burned piece suggesting the cloak of the Mayas. The onyx stone which was purchased on holiday in Truro many years ago, combined with the onyx chips give just enough evidence of the the ceremonial splendour.
