Owls was one of my first sculptures. I had found the stone owl in Scotland on holiday and it seemed to need a tree to sit in. This materialised in form of a root which I found at the beach. The sculpture underwent several different metamorphoses in the base. The tree needed to be grounded and I just could not get settled with the first two versions using small granules and large stones. I finally found the right size support years later. The ‘baby’ owls are limestone pebbles which my pupils found in the shingle of the playground and traded with me for gummi bears!
